Frequently asked questions.
Help with connecting, sending doodles, widgets, accounts, and privacy.
Getting connected
How do we connect our phones?
- Install With Doodles on both Android phones.
- One person creates a space and opens its invite.
- The other person scans the QR code, opens the invite link, or enters the six-character code.
- Choose a name and join the space.
The invite works once and expires after 24 hours.
Can I connect with more than one person?
Yes. Create a separate two-person space for each partner, friend, or family member. Every space keeps its own doodles, history, name, streak, and receipt setting.
Why does my invite say it expired?
An invite expires after 24 hours and can be used only once. Create a new space to get a fresh invite.
What does a pending space mean?
The space is waiting for its second person. Open it to share the invite again, or leave it if you no longer need it.
Doodles and replies
What can I add to a doodle?
Draw with a finger or compatible stylus, then add movable text, an emoji, or a photo. You can change the brush color and size, undo, redo, and clear the canvas.
Can I draw on a doodle someone sent?
Yes. Open the latest doodle from the app, widget, notification, or history to continue it. Clear the canvas when you want a fresh page; you can undo the clear if you change your mind.
What do the ticks mean?
One tick means sent. Two gray ticks mean delivered, and two colored ticks mean read. Either person can turn receipts off for that space.
How does the streak work?
The streak advances only when both people send at least one doodle on the same calendar day.
Why has a doodle not arrived yet?
Check that both phones are online, then open With Doodles on the receiving phone. The app listens for new doodles while open and uses private notifications for background updates. Android may delay background delivery when battery saving or network restrictions are active.
If it still does not arrive, update With Doodles on both phones and email support@withdoodles.com with the phone models and Android versions. Do not send your invite code or private drawings.
Home screen and lock screen
How do I add the home-screen widget?
In With Doodles, choose Add home-screen widget and confirm your launcher's placement prompt. You can also press and hold an empty part of the home screen, open Widgets, find With Doodles, and drag it into place.
Can I draw directly on the widget?
The widget displays the latest doodle. Tap it to open that doodle in the editor and draw a reply. Clear the canvas there when you want a fresh page.
Can I hide a private doodle on the widget?
Turn on widget privacy in Settings. The widget blurs the drawing while keeping some color and shape visible. Tap it to open the doodle in the app.
Can With Doodles appear on my lock screen?
On supported phones, set With Doodles as a live wallpaper and choose the lock screen or both screens in Android's wallpaper preview. Native lock-screen widgets are offered only by some Android versions and launchers, so they may not appear in your phone's widget picker.
Account and privacy
Do I need an account?
You can sign in with Google or a passwordless email link, or start as a guest. Save a guest account with Google or email from Profile & account to keep the same spaces and sign in on another phone.
Are our doodles private?
Only the two members of a space can open its doodles. With Doodles does not upload contacts or show a public feed. Doodles are protected by authenticated access rules, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. See the privacy policy for retention and deletion details.
How do I delete my account and doodles?
Open the drawer, choose Profile & account, then choose Delete account and my doodles. This deletes your profile, the doodles you sent, and your Firebase account. Your partner controls the doodles they sent.
